A Team vs Bessingby Park Rangers - Home - League - Won 5-0 (Report by John Cooper)
Team: Drew, Stanley , Tyrese, Ben, ALfie, Kurtis, Anthony, Harry, Zak, Conor (Capt), Luke C and Brandon
Mission accomplished as the A team earned promotion to Division one with a resounding victory over Bessingby Park Rangers to finish runners up behind today’s opposition. Before the game we knew a draw would be enough but was going to be very difficult because Bessingby had played 14 and won 14 games. The boys were up for this, as noted previously we are playing well but today surpassed anything seen all season, every boy in every position scored maximum performance points as we tore Bessingby apart.
Headstone had most of the early possession and were rewarded for their efforts after 10 minutes, a corner from Harry created panic in the Bessingby six yard box and Zak scrambled home to put HM 1-0 up. Our confidence is high and we begin to outpass and outfight our opponents. After 15 mins Zak rattles the underside of the bar from 25 yards but the ball stays out, unhappy with this, a few minutes later, zak receives a pass from Conor taking it in his stride on his chest and volleying the ball home into the bottom corner 2-0. On 25 mins a lovely move involving Alfie to Zak to Conor to Harry to Anthony who liftet the ball over their GK to make 3-0 at half time.
The second half was much the same but they did work our defence and goalie far more, once again Tyrese, Ben, Stanley and Alfie (later Brandon) were excellent in defence whilst Drew after a quiet first Half was brilliant in the second half dominating his area and not letting Bessingby have a chance. Kurtis dominated midfield and Luke Cooley had a great game up front holding up play bringing the midfield into the match. Harry was now finding his range spraying balls out to the wingers. The fourth goal came after some good link up play with Harry and Anthony saw the ball delivered into the box for Conor to run on and finish well 4-0. Anthony grabbed his second of the match after a great shot from Luke C came back of the keeper for Anthony to follow up and make it 5-0. Bessingby did almost get a consolation by hitting the crossbar, but Drew was there to collect the rebound.
Goals: Zak 2, Anthony 2, Conor 1
Players of the match: The whole team
Well done boys, a terrific performance culminating with a deserved promotion to the next division, we still have a cup run to look forward to but must continue this level of play if we are to progress to the semi final or finals.
